Gambian Student excels in Sierra-Leone

Kadijatou A. Jobarteh, a Gambian lady from Bansang, has recently returned from Njala University in Sierra Leone, where she bagged a BSC in Home Economics, the Daily Observer has learned.

After 3  years of successful studies in the  said Sierra- Leonian University, Mrs Jobarteh was said to be the first woman ever in the  history of Njala University  to obtain a BSC degree in Home Economics.

In an interview with the  Daily Observer recently at  her residence in Kanifing, Joberteh said she started the BSC programme in 2006 and was able to complete it in 3 years after she had already obtained a Teachers certificate and Higher teachers certificate at the Gambia College. Madam Joberteh highlighted  the  need for more  female teachers to be taught  on Home Economics, adding that it will enhance the teaching and learning of this subject in schools.

According to her, she went to introduce the programme at the University of the  Gambia with the  support  of the  government to help people to learn this subject in the  country, especially girls. She  said it is also a way to answer to the president's advocacy for girls' education and women empowerment for better Gambia. She thanked the  government  for sponsoring her course and all the support  she received.

She appealed to government to inculcate this Home Economics studies at  the University of the Gambia. She revealed that she has four children.
