The Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh continues to receive more congratulatory messages from world leaders, diplomats and individuals on the occasion of the country’s 45th Independence Anniversary.

The latest messages came from Susan Waffa-Ogoo (Mrs), the Gambia’s ambassador and permanent representative at the United Nations in New York; Ebrima JT Kujabi, Charge d’Affaires at the Gambian Embassy in Washington DC; Angela B Colley, the Gambia’s High Commissioner in Abuja, Nigeria; and Alhaji Morr Mohammed Jobe, managing director of MJ Financial Services and Bureau De Change Limited.

The messages read:
Once again, it is the 18th February, the time of year when Gambians from all works of life celebrate our esteemed country’s National Day.
As tradition demands, the day would be marked with great enthusiasm and the euphoria of the group and pageantry no doubt help us all to express and reinforce our shared values, our hopes and our dreams. Most importantly, however, we hope the day would act as a solemn reminder to all of us of the unity of purpose so beautifully captured in the National Pledge "For the Gambia, our homeland". We are confident that The Gambia would remain resolute in all its endeavors to overcome the numerous challenges of the times (development etc.) and together realise our collective vision of a better tomorrow.

Let me on my own behalf, and of the staff of the Permanent Mission of The Gambia to the United Nations, extend our unequivocal felicitations to Your Excellency and your family and through you, to the Government and the beautiful people of The Gambia.
Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration and esteem.
