Monday, February 06, 2012

The Gambia National GSM operator, Gamcel, recently donated 100 bags of cement to Armitage Senior Secondary School in Janjangbureh, Central River Region (CRR).

Receiving the donation on behalf of the school administration, the principal of the school, Sulayman Keita, commended Gamcel for the benevolent gesture. He said Gamcel came to their aid when the school started a fencing project. The GSM company, he informed, provided 100 bags of cement, 10 trips of sand and five trips of gravel.

He emphasised the importance of the school fence, saying without the fence Armitage cannot be called a boarding school. He then called on others to emulate Gamcel. Keita revealed that his aim is to restore the glory of the school, noting that Armitage used to be the best school in the country. He applauded the ex-students of the school for the assistance they are rendering to the school.

The chairman of the board of governors of the school, Kaunding Tambedou, thanked the principal for transforming the school since he assumed office. He cited the feeding difficulty and debts the school used to face as now things of the past, adding that the students are well fed now and they do not owe anybody. He went on to reiterate that if the school is not properly fenced it would be difficult to control the students.

Tambedou appealed for assistance in order to complete the fencing project and took the opportunity to advise the students to take their education seriously, noting that the importance of education cannot be over-emphasized. He finally called on the natives of CRR particularly those in the business sector to emulate Gamcel.
