Gamcel scratch card case hits courtThursday, June 11, 2009 One Kaddy Bojang, an ex-official of Gamtel, was yesterday arraigned before Justice Joseph Wowo of the High Court in Banjul on two charges of economic crime and stealing. According to the particulars of the offence, the accused, Kaddy Bojang, in the year 2007, as an employee of The Gambia Telecommunications Company Ltd (Gamcel) caused the loss of one million, two hundred thousand dalasis (D1.2 million) to Gamcel. The money is said to be the proceeds of the sale of 23,500, unauthorised Gamcel scratch cards - 500 cards valued at D100 each and 23,000 cards valued at D50 each. The particulars further indicated that the accused, in 2007, also stole 20,500 Gamcel scratch cards of D50 denomination and 500 cards of D100 denomination. The state was represented by State Counsel SM Barkum and Lawyer Lamin Jobarteh was the defence counsel.
