Gamtel/Gamcel give D1.6m to U-17

Thursday, February 05, 2009
The Gambia Telecommunication Company (Gamtel) and its sister institution, Gambia Cellular Company (Gamcel), have donated a substantive amount of D1,600,000 (one million, six hundred hundred thousand dalasis) to the Gambia Under 17 team as their contribution towards the facilitation of the team's participation in the upcoming African Under 17 Championship in Algeria.

Presenting the cheque to the GFA first vice president and chairman of the marketing sub-committee, Major-General Langtombong Tamba, at a ceremony held at the Gamcel headquarters in Kanifing, Phoday Sise, deputy managing director of Gamtel, said Gamtel/Gamcel are pleased to assist the team, noting that they are only fulfilling their social responsibilities.

Major-General Langtombong Tamba, receiving the cheque, thanked Gamtel/Gamcel for their gesture. He said the donation will go a long way in helping the football association to better prepare the team for the Algeria event, which kicks-off on March 19. Mrs Sira Ndow, a member of the marketing sub-committee expressed similar sentiments, adding that the institutions' move is a clear evidence of their readiness to support national causes at all times.
