German philanthropists largesse to GTTI

The Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI), one of the highest technical training Institutes in the country, last Friday, received high standard learning machines from Reinhard Neumann and Lotar Schumann of Germany, at a presentation ceremony held at the GTTI campus in Kanifing.

The machines which includ engine analyser, band saws, circular saw, spindle moulder and electrical items, were earmarked for the automotive engineering, electrical and wood work departments of the institute.

Speaking at the ceremony, Reinhard Neumann, a German philanthropist, observeed that the equipment at GTTI are not adequate and are not up to standard, and that this is what had prompted them to come with these standard machines so as to enable the students get quality knowledge. He assured the gathering of their continued support to the institute. The German philanthropist described the Gambian leader as a source of inspiration, whom, he said, put education among his top priorities, in an effort to increase the level of literacy in The Gambia.

For her part, the director general of GTTI, Fatou Mbye, thanked the donors for the laudable gesture and expressed delight to be associated with them. She disclosed that the machines worth 66,700 Euro, hoping that that they will serve her institution well. She assured the donors that the items would be put into good use.  

The GTTI director general also appealed to the donors to come up with experts in order to train the lecturers more on how to use the machines effectively. The director of resources at GTTI, Ida J Njie, thanked the philanthropists on behalf of government.

She highlighted the importance of resources of this nature in any institution, noting that there is no institution that can progress without resources. She also expressed hope that the donors will continue to support the institution.
