GFA endorses Tamba for GNOC presidency

africa » gambia
Wednesday, April 08, 2009
The Gambia Football Association, one of the affiliated associations of The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC), has confirmed it will nominate Major-General Langtombong Tamba for the position of presidency when affiliated bodies meet in the June 2009 General Assembly to elect a new executive committee for the national olympic committee.

Alhajie Abou Dandeh Njie, the position's previous occupant stepped down last month after serving at the helm for almost 20 years. Dandeh Njie said he has stayed at the top for a long while, hence he will not seek reelection during the June assembly. Now as the date for the assembly draws nearer, the Gambia Football Association has made known its nominee in Major-General Tamba, who has been in sports all his life.

An insider at the football association has told Observer Sports that other affiliate associations have already nodded their approval of the GFA decision to nominate Tamba for the olympic committee's highest position. "We at The Gambia Football Association will nominate Langtombong Tamba for the GNOC presidency and other affiliated associations have agreed to give us their hundred percent backing," said the official.

A seasoned military officer, Tamba presently serves as the first vice-president of The Gambia Football Association - a position he manages with sheer determination and efficiency leading to the recent successes The Gambia have registered in continental football.
