GFA league season kicks-off on Saturday

Africa » Gambia
Friday, January 08, 2010
The 12-team Gambia first division league season will start on Saturday, January 9 – barely one day before the start of the 2010 African Nations Cup finals in Angola.

The first week action will see the division one returnees, Gambia Ports Authority, facing off against Samger, while champions and Super Cup winners Armed Forces will start their title defense against Gamtel. Other week one fixtures will feature a tie between Steve Biko and Real de Banjul, while Coach Alagie Sarr will lead Sea View against his former club Wallidan.

Unlike last season when teams were billed to play twice in the week, the 2010 league fixtures will see teams playing only once in the week with all fixtures fixed between weekends. Serrekunda East mini-stadium, Serrekunda West mini-stadium, Manjai Kunda mini-stadium, Brikama Box Bar mini-stadium and the Independence Stadium in Bakau are the five indentified venues hosting the matches.

Week One Fixtures:
Saturday January 9, 2010
GPA vs Samger SK West
Hawks vs Bakau Utd SK East
Brikama Utd vs Interior Brikama

Sunday January10, 2010
Wallidan vs Sea View SK east
Steve Biko vs Real SK West
 A/Forces vs Gamtel Manjai
