GFA No.2 unhappy over Saturday's turnout

Africa » Gambia
Monday, September 07, 2009
The first vice president of the Gambia Football Association, Lieutenant General Lang Tombong Tamba, has expressed his disatisfaction over the low turnout by Gambians in Saturday's international friendly match between the Gambia U-17 national team and their Nigerian counterparts, at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.

Speaking to this paper shortly after the match, the GFA No.2, said that the turnout was very demoralizing. According to him, "it is good to organise international friendly matches as people themselves demand, but the revenue involved is very expensive". He called on Gambians to come out and support the national U-17 team as they are representing the country in the world U-17 championship later this year. He cited that people should see U-17 as a national asset, for whatever achiements they make will sell the name and image of The Gambia in the global arena.

While expressing optimism on the boys, GFA number 2, made it clear that his boys were physically fit and that despite the Ramadan they played well which gave him the hope that they can represent The Gambia well duing the world cup.
