GFCA summer camp wraps up

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, August 26, 2009
A month-long football summer camp organized by the Gambia Football Coaches Association (GFCA), ended on Monday, August 24, at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium.

The camp gathered youngsters from the various zones with the ultimate goal of exposing them [youngsters] to football's basic skills and techniques. Similar training camps, organized by the same association, were held in the Bakau, Manjai Kunda and Lamin zones.

Alagie Nyassi, a member of the coaches' association, said he was impressed with the high turn-out of youths in all four zones, hinting that the objective of the camp has been achieved. Nyassi, who is the head coach of Tallinding United - a side that recently relegated to the second tier of Gambian football - said, his association has plans to make the camp an annual event.

Alagie Badjie, a participant from Tallinding Sicap, told our reporter that he was very satisfied with the way the training camp was being conducted. Badjie did not state the specific new skill(s) he had acquired during the camp, but insisted that he had learnt new ideas that would help improve his football techniques.
