Over 300 personnel from the office of The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) come out on Saturday to participate in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise commonly called 'set settal'.

The officers drew from Brikama, Banjul, KMC units for this monthly exercise assembled as early as 7.00 am at their Serekunda office. Chief Superintendent Karamo Sanneh, commissioner for administration championed the cleansing which started from West Field through Abuko village. The GID officers cleaned both the two sides of the highway and cleared rubbish out of sight.

Speaking to the reporters, Superintendent Ebrima Jahateh said 'a clean nation is a healthy nation.' He said they took the challenge and chose to clean the Brikama Highway from West Field traffic lights to the end of Abuko hence it is a busy highway with many vendors. "We believe that they always make this area dirty because they leave some rubbish that need to be cleared off the road everyday," he declared.

In her part, Inspector Fatou Jammeh said traders on the highway should always endeavour to clean the dirt  at the end of their daily transactions. She therefore advised other security departments to as well take this as a challenge to come out and participate in the monthly environment sanitation exercise. She added that it has become a habit that some people will be  working while some will be roaming the streets or the highways without doing anything than looking for a vehicle.  She therefore urged people concern to desist from this unpatriotic act.
