GID to modernise identification documents![]() Wednesday, May 27, 2009 The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), the institution responsible for handling and controlling all national identification documents, is set to embark on an extensive exercise which is aimed at modernizing all national identification papers under its purview. In a press release sent to the Daily Observer, GID indicated that completion of the modernization exercise will enable it provide national identity cards or documents with Biometric details. The dispatch further noted that a Gambian Technology Company, Pristine Consultancy, is contracted to implement the project, and that the first phase of the project will include documents such as the National ID card, alien card and resident permits A&B. The project, the release went on, is expected to be completed in the next three months, in the course of which, all the above mentioned documents can only be issued on emergency basis.
