Global economic crisis affects tourist market

africa » gambia
Thursday, April 02, 2009
The tourist season has been a major boost for the people involved in the tourist market as most of their items are being sold to tourists who visit the country, but the economic crisis has affected their market especially this season.

Our reporter went round to gather the opinions of the people pertaining to how they see this year's season compared to  the previous seasons. Most people described this year's tourist season as the worst. Abdoulie Sanneh of Joanna's Bar and Restaurant at Senegambia, described the previous season as far better than that of this year's. He said they are not making any money from their products. "Tourists only buy drinks which is really affecting our sales. The decrease in tourists that visit the country this year is also another factor caused by  the global economic crisis.

For his part, Habib Tamba of St. Mary's Super Market, said this year's season is some how fair but the previous seasons are better. He described the global economic crisis as a subject for their marketing downfall as tourists decreased drastically. Ali Baba, the proprietor of Ali Baba Bar and Restaurant, also described the season as fair, attributing it to the global financial crisis.
