Global Unification-Gambia set for Climate Action Week![]() Friday, October 09, 2009 Global Unification The Gambia, a research and development youth association will join the rest of the environmental activists around the world to celebrate the Global Week of Climate Action, from 21st to 24th of October 2009. The day has been set aside for climate change and environmental policy makers, youth and stakeholders to reflect on the environmental hazards, climate change threats and the possible solutions. In an interview with the Daily Observer yesterday, the secretary to the National Committee of Global Unification-The Gambia, Madiba Sillah, said the idea has been motivated by the participation of three of the association's members in the recently concluded TUNZA international youth and children's conference held in the city of Deajon, South Korea. These three members, he said were delegates representing the youth and children of The Gambia. Sillah added that at the conference they had come up with resolutions part of which was the 'Seal the deal' petition, which aimed at collecting signatories of youths to be presented at the Climate Change conference of world leaders to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark in December this year. His disclosed that his organisation had lined up series of events as part of the celebration of Global Week of Climate Action. Among the activities marking the event will be cleansing exercise, to held on the 21st; tree planting on the 22nd; a symposium on climate change solutions on the 23rd and a procession from Galp Churchill's Town Petrol Station to the Buffer Zone, on the 24th, where a big rally and musical concert will be held with the theme: 'Climate Change action begins with me'. The GU-Gambia national secretary therefore called on all stakeholders especially the young poeple to join the association to make the event a success.
