Friday, September 18, 2009
The Gambia government have made a donation of five million dalasis to the Gambia Football Association as government's own contribution to the national u-17 as they prepare to represent the Gambia in the up coming global football Championship to be held next month.

Honourable Sheriff Gomez, Minister for Youths and Sports told the press yesterday at his office that government is committed to help the baby scorpions and the GFA raised the said amount of money needed for the world cup Campaign, so as to heighten the level of confidence and the spirit the boys have in bringing the global trophy back home. "The GFA marketing committee and the ministry are working very hard to make sure that all the needed funds are available for the team so as to help them undergo the proposed training camp in the United Kingdom. And also   to see them  back to The Gambia were the final launching of the road to Nigeria will be done" said Sheriff Gomez".

According to him, a lot of money is needed to take the team of twenty-six players and about seven officials to UK and at the same time engage in a series of test matches. "Now we need about four to five million dalasis to accomplish the total amount that we need for the whole preparations.  I believe that all Gambians should be proud to do some thing for this group of people that have being flying the Gambian flag high since the 2005 African U-17 Championship hosted in Banjul."  He noted  that nothing is small, for in as much as the intention is there, the money is much valued.

Gomez  added that the office of the secretary General has tasked all the civil servants to donate to the U-17 and further asked  the private sector to also do the same thing so that the baby scorpions will bring the trophy home. Minister Gomez however  used the opportunity to thank all the media houses for playing their part in making sure that information is reaching the people with regards to the Preparations ahead.
