Governor Seckan receives youth parliamentarians in NBR

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, April 29, 2009
The governor of the North Bank Region, Alhagie Edwarr Seckan, last Monday received the youth parliamentarians of the North Bank Region at his office in Kerewan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Seckan urged the youths in his region to be more creative and to be good citizens, noting that they have a great role to play in bringing development to the region. He called on the youths to desist from engaging in criminal activities which, he said, will affect the future  of the country.

According to him, youth development is part of President Jammeh's priorities. He then called on the youths to be disciplined so that they can be leaders in future. Kebba Bojang, police commissioner for the North Bank Region, said the development of any country depends on her youths and called on them to work hard.

Baboucarr Ceesay, the speaker of the NBR Youth Parliament, said the visit to the governor's office was to discuss with him certain issues affecting young people in the region, particularly illegal migration. This, he said, is another menace, with the majority of the victims coming from the North Bank Region. "So we want to engage in massive sensitisation about illegal migration so as to advise the youths to try to acquire skills rather than engage in such dangerous routes to Europe," he concluded.
