Gov't, SFID sign US$14.5M road project

Africa » Gambia
Friday, February 26, 2010
Abdou Colley, the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs on behalf of the government of The Gambia has signed a loan agreement with the Saudi Fund for International Development for the Brikama-Darsilameh-Dimbaya road stretch during his recent trip to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the fund in Riyadh on February 13 2010.  The road project is co-financed by the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa and The government of The Gambia at a tune of US$14.5 million, out of which the Saudi Fund for International Development component is US$7.5million.

The 25km stretch project will undoubtedly assist The Gambia in its efforts to improve the national roads network within the Western Region, in line with plans and programmes of the government and will be connecting The Gambia and Senegal.

Furthermore, its implementation would ease traffic movement and safety on the road, as well as reduce cost of traveling for residents, in particular farmers. Minister Abdou Colley and Yousef Ibrahim Al- Bassan, the vice chairman and managing director of the Saudi Fund for International Development appended the signatures for both parties.
