GPA gives 300,000 to U-17

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, August 12, 2009
The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) has donated a substantive amount of D300,000 (three hundred thousand dalasis) to the Gambia National Under 17 team in a presentation ceremony held at the office of the vice-president of the Gambia Football Association, Lieutenant General Langtombong Tamba,  on Monday.

The amount, according to the Ports Authority officials, is their contribution to the African champions as they prepare to represent the country in the 2009 FIFA Under 17 World Cup starting in Nigeria on October 24. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Ousman Jobarteh, the director of operations at Gambia Ports Authority expressed his institution's willingness at all time to support Gambian football.

Receiving the amount, which was in form of a cheque, Lieutenant General Tamba, the chairman of the Gambia Football Association marketing committee, who doubles as the chief of The Gambia army, hailed the GPA for the timely and  kind contribution. He said the Gambia Ports Authority is one of the institutions that has always answered to the call of the Gambia Football Association, more specially during difficult moments.

While urging other stakeholders to emulate Ports Authority's kind gesture, Tamba said the support of  every Gambian is needed to ensure the Baby Scorpions's smooth participation in the Nigeria event.
