GRA Board dissolved: As commissioner general, 2 others removedFriday, June 15, 2012 Sources close to the Daily Observer have revealed that the Boardof Directors of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has been dissolved effective Wednesday.The dissolution of the GRA Board came in the wake of the submission of the report of the recently concluded Tax Commission. The Board
comprised of Geoffrey Renner as chairman,; Tony Carvalho as vice chairman;
Batch Samba Faye; Fafa Mbye; permanent secretary at the Ministry of Finance;
permanent secretary at the Ministry of Trade; and the commissioner general of
GRA as members. In another
development, the Daily Observer also learnt that Bakary Sanyang, the
commissioner general of the Authority, alongside senior officials in the
persons of Mamour Joof, deputy commissioner, Tax Office Operation and Louis
Sheikh Tijan Gillen, deputy commissioner, Large Taxpayers Unit, have been dismissed
from the services of the Gambia Government effective Wednesday, June 13th,
2012. Readers would recall that the recommendations of the Tax Commission as highlighted by its chairperson, Justice Mama Fatima Singhateh , include the dissolution and replacement of the current GRA Board, as well as prosecution of named persons including GRA officials found criminally liable to the findings of the Commission.
