GRCS, NDMA give to NBR disaster victimsThursday, August 26, 2010 Addressing the affected families, the deputy governor of
NBR, Alhaji Abu Njie, thanked the donors (GRCS and NDMA) for complementing
government's efforts in providing humanitarian assistance to the affected
families.The NBR deputy governor noted that the gesture is a clear
testimony of government's commitment in creating an enabling environment for
stakeholders to come on board to assist victims in such difficult situation. Presenting the relief materials to the affected families, Poulo O.N Joof, the regional disaster coordinator for NBR, said the gesture came as a result of the recent flood and windstorm during which many people lost their properties and foodstuff. Joof noted that the presentation also showed the importance the donors attached to humanitarian services. He disclosed that the NDMA provided relief materials which included: rice, oil, sugar, beds, bed sheets, soap and second hand clothings whilst the GRCS also provided mats, buckets, soap, bed nets, blankets as well as second hand clothings. Ousman C Jallow, the
Red Cross branch officer for NBR, echoed similar sentiments and added that the
GRCS's ultimate mandate is to support the suffering and help them to
effectively participate in national development. Alhaji Lamin Ceesay, the chairman of Kerewan Area Council
(KAC); and Alhaji Tamba Kinteh, the chief executive officer of KAC who doubles
asvice chairman of the NBR Disaster
Committee, applauded the efforts of the government through the NDMA in their
