Greenland crowned Mandinary 2012 Nawettan champions

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, February 07, 2012

Greenland FC have been crowned champions of the Mandinary Nawettan tournament after beating Sanchaba United by 1-0 in a keenly contested final match played at the village community field over the weekend.

The game was just 16 minutes old when the first real scoring opportunity came as Sanchaba’s Alieu Jarju, the tournament top striker made a brilliant run from the midfield but his powerful shot was turned around the post by keeper Lamin Ceesay. Six minutes later, Greenland nearly scored on the break before defender Abou Ngum cleared off the line in desperation as the half ended goalless.

Coming in the second half, Greenland’s Yuspha Conteh’s excellent shot flew into the net for the only goal of the match.
