Officials of The Gambia Suprime Islamic Council (GSIC), led by the president, Oustas Mohamed Lamin Drammeh, on Sunday embarked on a nation-wide tour.

The tour commenced in the North Bank Region, were delegates met with the governor of the region, Edwarr Seckan. Speaking at the governor's officer in Kerewan, the GSIC president, Mohamed Lamin Drammeh, said the visit is part of the Council's aims and objectives to go around the country and visit their fellow Muslims and discuss issues that will promote the welfare of Islam in the country. He highlighted the importance of Islamic religious teaching in the socio-economic and political lives of Muslims.

He urged fellow Muslims to join in the propagation of Islam both within and outside the country. Oustas Touray  expressed concern over the rate of teenage pregnancy, baby dumping and other societal ills. "As a religion that admonishes peace, Islam has no room for such  violence," he said. He advised parents to send their children to read the Holy Quran. "It is incumbent on every Muslim parent to teach his children the alphabet of the Arabic language which he said will help them to read the Quran, adding that failure to teach children the Quran means the Islamic Ummah has failed.

Governor of the region, Alhaji Edwarr Seckan, described the visit as timely and important in the effort of propagating Islam. He called on all Muslims and stakeholders to support the Council.
