Gunjur and SK East to battle for third best

africa » gambia » serrekunda
Tuesday, December 30, 2008
The two semi-final casualties in the Muhammed Yahya Jammeh Perpetual Zonal Championships - Gunjur and Serrekunda East will square off against each other on Saturday, January 3, in third place play-off.

Banjul denied the tournament favorites Gunjur by beating them in a penalty shoot-out after a goalless draw on Saturday at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium, while East side lost 0-1 to Bakau in their Sunday encounter at the West Mini-stadium on Sunday.

Despite being knocked out at the semi stage by a side who only qualified after collecting 3 points in of possible 9, the fancy Gunjur side were hugely applauded by football lovers for their heroic performance. The third best play-off comes a day before the grand final, which will pit together the two
bitter rivals Bakau and Banjul at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

The January 5 final will be the repeat of last year's final, which Bakau won 1-0.
