Gunjur murderer arrested![]() Tuesday, June 16, 2009 Lamin Faye, a native of Niamina Dankunku, has been arrested and detained by the police, after he reportedly surrendered himself to the Gunjur Police. Faye is accused of murdering one Mustapha Jammeh. Ousman Jatta, commissioner of police, Western Region, confirmed the story and said that the development occurred last Friday in Gunjur, and that the culprit, Lamin Faye, surrendered himself to the police on the same day, identifying himself as responsible for the murder of the victim, Mustapha Jammeh, a resident of Gunjur. "We then arrested him and put him in cell. During the interrogation with Faye, he told the police that the deceased, Mustapha Jammeh, had appeared to him several times in dream, threatening to kill him (Lamin Faye), and that he had pre-empted him by stabbing him," Commissioner Jatta narrated. According to the police, the late Mustapha Jammeh was rushed to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital for medical examination before he was pronounced dead after 2 days. "It was a surprise, because usually when this kind of incident happens, the accused persons who commit the crime run away. But this time, it is a different thing. We are still wondering what must have been the case between the deceased and the murderer. For somebody to have done such a brave act and be bold enough to surrender himself to the police, the only thing we can do as police is to get him arrested and put the matter on investigation to know the root cause of what might have happened between them," the commissioner explained. Malamin Ceesay, Officer Commanding, Major Crime Unit at The Gambia Police force, attached to the police headquarters, said the accused has been charged for murder under section 187 of the criminal code, contrary to the laws of the land. He added that investigations into the matter are ongoing and that the police are making all efforts to ensure that all those involved in this kind of acts are arrested and tried before the court. The major Crime boss went on to say that the police cannot be everywhere, urging members of the community to come forward and give them information relating to any crime in their areas so that "at least the police would make a quick move in trying to survey the area and know what is cooking up". According to OC Ceesay, the accused, Lamin Faye, has a very bad criminal record. He revealed that he had just been discharged from the State Central Prison at Mile 2, where he had served a sentence for stealing. Meanwhile, Lamin Faye is helping the police in their investigations in to the murder of Mustapha Jammeh. Author: by Musa Ndow | Media Actions See Also |
