GVHC Foundation on blood donation campaign

Africa » Gambia
Monday, January 25, 2010
The Gambia Venezuela Hugo Chavez Foundation on Saturday donated blood to RVTH at a ceremony held at the Pipeline Mosque, along Kairaba Avenue.

In an interview with the Daily Observer on Saturday at the venue, Amadou Cham, the president of the foundation  said since the establishment of the foundation, they have been engaged in voluntary services in various communities in the fields of health, education and agriculture. He revealed that they offer scholarships to some orphans and needy students in the six villages that the association is operating.

Cham said that the foundation in the future will involve itself more on various activities of national development in different villages across the country. He further revealed plans to build a hospital in Kerr Malick Sarr village in Lower Nuimi before the end of 2010; that they have already started distributing school materials, which every student and teacher will benefit from. “We started the distribution campaign at Latrikunda Yirriganya Nursery School,” he disclosed.

The GVHC foundation president then revealed that they also have plans to extend their helping hands to other villages. For Cham, the foundation is here to contribute its quota in promoting international integration and South-South Cooperation. He added that they are here to fight against poverty and increase the living standard of the people. He then assured of their readiness to strengthen the already existing bilateral ties between The Gambia and Venezuela and to enhance sustainable development programmes.
