Hail Gambian Women

[endif]Editorial

It is not surprising hearing that our women are mobilising themselves for a 'solidarity work' on the president's farms in Kanilai, as a way of showing support and solidarity to the leadership for all he has been doing for them in particular, and the country in general. It shows that our women are ready to prove that 'Forward with The Gambia' is their mission, and that they will continue to stand by that mission.

The decision of the women to converge on the president's farm in Kanilai is simply part of efforts towards attaining food self-sufficiency for the country, which has been a priority of government; it shows that they are heeding the president's call for people to return to the land so that we can eat what we grow and grow what we eat, and in the process become masters of our development process.

Today, our women have proven beyond all reasonable doubt that they are the vanguard of our development process. Their strong sense of devotion to the common interest, which is national development, and their massive involvement in agriculture are examples of their commitment to ensuring the realisation of the aspirations of the president in transforming this country into a model state.

The annual convergence of the women on the presidents' farm in Kanilai should be a wake up call for the men. As men, we are obliged to complement the efforts of the women for the sustainable development of our country. The president, through his government, has provided the enabling environment that makes it possible for every Gambian to take centre-stage in our development. We must also play our part. We commend the women for championing the sustainable development of this country.
