Hamat Bah is mouthy -Musa Susso on tape

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, April 22, 2009
More of Musa Susso's interesting allegations were revealed yesterday and the false information trial against him continued before Magistrate Kayode of the Brikama Magistrates Court.

The accused stated in a recorded tape that  Hamat Bah, the head of the National Reconciliation Party - whom he described as 'mouthy', threatened the Prison boss, David Colley, when he (Bah) and another opposition leader, Omar Jallow (OJ), were remanded at Mile Two. Musa Susso alleged (on tape) that Bah told David Colley that he should know that they would one day rule The Gambia and that he (David) would then have to answer for all he has done. He alleged that this so terrified the Prison boss that he accorded the politicians many facilities.

Continuing his allegations, the accused went further to narrate how Prison officers and inmates conducted the business of selling cannabis at Mile 2. He said the people who dealt in cannabis would make their contacts and send the prison officers to collect the forbidden drug. He said when the officers brought the drug, the inmates would in turn sell it among themselves. He further alleged that whenever the officers were out of cash, they would raid the cells to retrieve any cannabis they could lay hands on, then punish the culprits lightly. He said the officers would resell the seized cannabis.

Concerning pardons, Musa Susso alleged that what used to happen is that when David and his men could not get money from any inmate, they would look for those who had died or had escaped and put their names on the list. The former National Assembly for Kombo North alleged that there was a time when the Prison boss brought the carcass of a cow, but he, Susso, protested that the cow had been dead three days before and was not fit for consumption. He said David's response was that he was not forcing anybody to eat it.

Musa Susso also alleged that David Colley often insulted his officers' mothers and abused them in other ways because they were all scare of him. The case continues today.
