Hardbreaka busy on solo albumFriday, February 05, 2010 Mamut Jeng alias Hardbreaka, one of The Gambia’s unique reggae dancehall genius in recent years, is currently at advantaged stage to release his debut solo album. The star who hailed from Farafenni in the North Bank Region, started music at a young age. At his tender age, he used to perfom in school parties and other social events. As a performing artists, Hardbreaka began to take up music seriously in 1997 and since then, has managed to release a seven-track mixtape comprising hit tunes. Besides, he was also featured in a number of major compilations like the “Be yourself Compilation Vol one,’ produced by Pierre Carrol of HITECH Production, which has now moved to the Senegalese city of Dakar. Hardbreaka was also featured on the famous ‘Smiling Coast’ compilation, produced by the late MJ of Buldorf Record, as well as the ‘Guiding Riddim’, produced by A-9 Productions. In an excludive interview with What’s On, recently, Hardbreaka, revealed that he will soon land his album in the country’s music market. “I believe I have the talents and stuff to showcase in the musical showbiz. And I think it is through music that I can easily inform, educate as well as entertain the masses especially the younger generation. As a person living on ths earth, I have to contribute my quota towards creation, and one of such thing is to spread positive messages to people,” he said. Commenting on his ‘Sixteen days in a death man case’ track, he said it was crafted because “ when watching news all I see is are dead men, wars and crimes and raping of innocent children”. This, he added, motivated him to sing in a bid to teach the younger gneration, so as to avoid thinking wars and negative ways but rather grow with positive minds for their development. According to him, most of the international media don’t report the positive side of Africa, but instead they only feature the negative side. “Now is the time for the youth to rise up and open up their eyes, as no one will develop our country for us,” he stated. “I hear the cries of the poor and see them knocking on my door” , chorus. “This means I see people carrying heavy load knocking on borders seeking for food to eat etc. Actually that track is talking about the bad aspect these international media, which if children continued to watch will make their heart so strong,” he underscored. On his recent trip to the senegalese city of Dakar, he said it was basically a familiarisation trip, to exchange cultures as well as build ties in promoting his music to the next level. He then appluaded the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, for his financial support to him, which he added has enabled him to record his new songs. “ I ‘m really grateful to the Gambian leader, as his financial boost will go along way in developing my music career,” he said while praying for the Gambian leader good health and long life. He then called on his fans to continue their loyalty to him, as his album comprises hit tunes which if finally released will storm the entire country’s music scene like an erupting volcano.
