Tuesday, June 02, 2009
The Hasbunallahu Islamic Foundation in Bundung last Sunday, held its second annual lecture at Samega Janneh Memorial Hall, Buffer Zone in Latrikunda.

The annual lecture which was well attended started with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Alhaji Isiaka Arogundade, vice chairman of HIF, gave a brief introduction of the foundation. He highlighted the Foundation's achievement and its main mission - spreading the words of Almighty Allah. He said that members of HIF is not only composed Nigerians but members also involve different nationals like Gambians, Sierra Leoneans, Liberians, and others from the Francophone countries.

In her opening remarks, Her Excellency Easter John Daodou, the Nigerian ambassador to The Gambia, expressed delight and happiness towards the women for their punctuality and attentiveness when it comes to such religious gathering. "I am happier to see that the number of women in the hall is more than men. This has shown the commitment of women towards the promotion of the Islamic religion," she said. Ambassador Easter John Daodou then encouraged members of the HIF to continue to instil and strive towards the cause of Allah especially through their nursery school where messages of Allah are easy to pass to children.

As western world and culture is taking over the center stage, the Nigerian ambassador appealed to parents especially mothers to take proper care of their children in order to follow their foot paths. She cited immoral dressing as taking religion and culture away from society, noting that  such mode of dressings need correction. Madam Easter John Daodu also urged men to support their wives especially in a gathering of this type. She thanked the guest lecturers for their support and ever readiness in guiding the young scholars.

Dr Omar Jah Jnr, acting deputy vice chancellor, University of The Gambia who was one of the lecturers at the forum, centred his lecture on 'the heart of Islamic parenthood.' In his deliberation, he advised parents to accord their children good training that would make them discipline. He reminded the gathering of the importance of both Western and Islamic education for children.

Dr Omar Jah said many people are idling physically and mentally because they do not know why they are on this earth. The notable Islamic scholar wrapped up his lecture by encouraging parents to try as much as possible, to be aware of divorce which is rampant in society.  According to him divorce always has negative impact on children noting that marriage is a life time agreement and divorce should be the last resort when there is no alternative. Lectures were also delivered in local dialects at the forum.
