Hon. Seedy Njie charged with theftTuesday, August 10, 2010 Honourable Seedy S.K Njie, a nominated member of the National Assembly , was Monday 9th August 2010, arraigned and charged with three counts of stealing by person in public service contrary to Section 257 of the Criminal Code Cap 10 Volume 3 Laws of The Gambia, 1990, before Magistrate Hillary Abeke of the Banjul Magistrates' Court. According to the particulars of the offence, count one stated that the Honourable Seedy SK Njie, in the month of March 2009 in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, acting in the capacity of deputy coordinator of the National Patriotic Students Association (NAPSA) with intent to defraud, stole D28, 000 being money for payment of NAPSA congress members accommodation at NYSS, and thereby committed an offence. Count two stated that the accused, Honourable Seedy SK Njie in the year 2009, in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, stole D18, 000 being monies for hiring of NAPSA mini-bus to Banjul International Airport by tourists which he failed to tender, and diverted it for his own use, and thereby committed an offence. Count three stated that the accused, Honourable Seedy SK Njie in the year 2009, in the Kanifing Municipality with intent to defraud, stole D10,000 from the proceeds of hiring NAPSA mini-bus to Kaolack, and thereby committed an offence. The accused pleaded not guilty to all counts and the presiding magistrate granted him a bail in the sum of D500, 000 with two Gambian sureties who must have a landed property within the jurisdiction of the court. The case was later adjourned to 16th August, 2010, but before the adjournment, the presiding magistrate informed the accused that if the one week adjournment is not satisfactory to him, he will be given ample time to equip himself on the next sitting.
