I bribed the police with D300 -Accused tells court

africa » gambia » bundung
Tuesday, March 31, 2009
Karamba Gassama, who is standing trial for unlawful escape from police custody before Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara of the Bundung Magistrates Court, on Wednesday 25 March alleged that he gave D300 to one Mattar Sanneh of the Bakoteh Police Station for his freedom.

Gassama made this allegation after denying the charge for which he was docked. He alleged that while in detention, Mattarr asked him (the accused) to pay him D500 but he (Gassama) insisted that he had only D300 with him. He added that the police officer then asked him to hand over the money and go.

When asked by the magistrate if anybody else was present when the exchange was made, the defendant responded in the negative. The case was adjourned to 31, March 2009. Inspector Mballow represented the IGP.
