One Alfulsainey Bah was on December 18th, 2009, arrested by the Police Intervention officers and detained at Police headquarters in Banjul.

Speaking to reporters on Monday at the police headquarters in Banjul, ASP Fakebba Darboe, officer commanding, CID unit in Western Region, said the incident happened on Friday 18th December 2009 at around 23:30pm when the night patrol team for Western Region, were on their joint security patrol around Drumeh Kolong in Brikama. He added that the patrol team met with the accused, Afulsainey Bah, who was seen dressed in a complete Police Intervention Unit (PIU) uniform and he was behaving in a manner suspicious to the officers.

According to him, the accused was intercepted and interrogated, during which they discovered that he was not a security officer, instead he was a civilian. ASP Darboe revealed that the accused was then arrested and taken to the Brikama Police Station. “He was interviewed and he confessed that the uniform belongs to his elder brother who is a PIU officer presently posted at the police intervention base in Fatoto. He added that the accused said his brother left the uniform at home and that is where he got access to it. ASP Darboe advised the public to continue to support the police in the execution of their duties.

In a similar case, one Mamudu Kanteh, was also arrested and currently detained for attempting to rape an under aged girl. According to ASP Fakebba Darboe, officer commanding CID unit in Western Region, the incident happened on the 18th December 2009 at Brufut, when a 3-year-old girl (name withheld) under the escort of PIU officers was brought to Brufut Police Station and was reported that the accused attempted to rape her. “The accused was later taken to the CID where he was questioned.

According to eye witnesses, 18:30pm on wards, while they were walking along the street they heard a child crying in an empty compound,” ASP Darboe told the press. “The witnesses,” he went “added that they entered the compound and found the little girl about to be raped by the accused who was found to be half naked standing before the child. She was rescued and taken to Brufut Health Centre and an examination was conducted. However he noted that the child was later referred to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital according to report from RVTH but the report stated that she was not raped,” he revealed.
