Over thirty participants recently concluded a five-day training on pottery making at Cha Kunda village in the Upper Fulladu District and Sambang Mandinka in the Niamina West District, Central River Region South. 

The training was organised by the Community Skills Improvement Project (CSIP) in collaboration with department of Community Development. It was aimed at upgrading the skills and knowledge of rural potters in order to improve their production. Addressing participants at the start of the training, Lamin Badjie, the community development officer for Central River Region South, called on the participants to take up the training serioulsy, as it will introduce new and innovative skills for them in order to improve on their socio-economic status.  He called on the pottery makers to register with the Attorney General's Chambers so as to be legally recognised for any other development. 

The Alkali of Cha Kunda, Sanna Kandeh, said the pottery training will nurture new skills and techniques to the participants as they will be introduced to new ideas.  He called on the participants to make best use of the training and put it into practice. Fulaimatta Sarjo of Sambang Mandinka, applauded CSIP for improving their skills describing it as another plus to their socio-economic advancement. During the course of the training, participants were introduced to firewood pottery stove, incense pots, candle stands and water jars.
