Inauguration of micro-finance training centre in Brikama-Ba

Africa » Gambia
Monday, May 18, 2009
On Sunday morning, President Jammeh inaugurated a new-mirco finance training centre in Brikama-Ba, Lower Fulladou District in CRR.

The new center, which was funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in collaboration with The Gambia Government, is meant to empower rural people and enable them to overcome the scourge of poverty. After inspecting the centre, the president advised officials there to ensure that both men and women benefit from the training opportunities. The centre, he noted, is purposely meant to empower rural people to eradicate poverty. He advised the people of the community to consider growing some bananas in the area, adding that the people of the area are blessed with fresh water.
Earlier, President Jammeh also visited a pilot wheat farm project set up by an Iranian company in Wali Kunda, Lower Fulladou District, Central River Region.
According to officials there, plans are underway to set up a flour factory in the village.

President Jammeh and delegation later headed to Jareng, making a brief stop at the home of the Second Infantry Battalion in Kudang. Upon arrival at the Kudang Barracks, a quarter guard was mounted for the Gambian leader before he was received by Lieutenant Colonel Yakubu Drammeh, chief of Army Staff, and Major Yorro Jallow, commanding officer at the Farafenni Barracks, who took him on a conducted tour of the camp. The commander-in-chief of The Gambia Armed Forces gave the soldiers and their wives at the barracks the sum of D20, 000.
