Inhabitants of London Corner raise concern over speedy driving

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, July 16, 2009
Residents along the London Corner Janjang RoadM, have raised concerns about the speed with which vehicles ply along that road to Latrikunda Sabiji.

Drivers drive at a very high speed, which according to the habitants, if not stopped, might cause fatal accidents. During an interview with this reporter, Pa Matarr Jobe, a resident of London Corner said driver drive recklessly on that road, noting that this might cause accidents. He appealed to the authorities to come to their aid, as this speedy driving is a major concern for them.

For his part, Adama Cham, a tailor along the highway, expressed similar sentiments. He cited the consequences attached to speedy driving and also urged the authorities responsible to address the issue before it is too late. "I have witnessed numerous accidents that happened as a result of similar attitudes as of these drivers that drive along the this road ," he explained.  He added that there is need for humps along the road that will help to slow  speedy driving.

Kumba Jobe, a resident of the place expressed anger with the drivers, stating that the drivers should know that they are not driving in the bush rather within the people and as such, they should always learn to drive easy. Others  who commented were Modou Gaye, Binta Jallow, Isatou Jeng, who all shared similar sentiments and therefore appealed to authorities to do something about it to avoid unnecessary accidents..
