Invest Gambia gives 28 scholarships

Invest Gambia, a local company with its head quarters in Birmingham, England has finally awarded scholarships to 28 applicants after having gone through a long awaited meticulous process.

Applicants who are successfully admitted to the College will be pursuing courses in international relations, economics, environmental science and agricultural science. To enable successful applicants to compete favorably in the international market, a diploma in first time management will be made compulsory for all students.

The scholarship according to the chairman of invest Gambia, Mr Ebrima Sanyang, is tenable in the Clarkson Wilberferce College in Birmingham. According to him, in order to enable many of the applicants benefit from the award, Invest Gambia has decided to award half scholarship of 2500 euros per applicant totalling 67,500 euro equivalent to D2700,000. He reiterated that the company hopes to adjust the scholarship package into full one for the rest of the applicants.

Asked when the next application forms will be made available, Mr Sanyang assured that when the time comes, it will be advertised in the news media.

As a Gambian, Mr Sanyang said this gesture is his own contribution towards the efforts been made by the President, Professor Alhaji Yahya AJJ Jammeh in developing the human resource base of the country for the benefit of all and sundry.

In order to faclitate the departure of the applicants to Britain, the principal of the College, Mrs Karen M'glad and the resource manager Mr Abid Majid, are in the country to interview the scholarship awardees and ordinary applicants to the College for immediate admission, at the Baobab Holiday Resort. The interview started last Wednesday and will end on Monday 22nd December 2008.

The team is assisted by Mr Ebrima Kandeh, a board member of Lowest Gambia and manager of Baobab Holiday Resort and the local recruitment officer, Paul G Addae
