The Indoor Residual Spraying, an operation to eradicate malaria in the country is gaining momentum in Njaw, Central River Region.

In a recent visit to the team at the area, Dr Mariatou Jallow, the secretary of state for Health and Social Welfare said the operation is geared towards eradicating malaria in the country.

Speaking to Daily Observer, SoS Jallow said she is impressed with the level of the work done by the green boys of the area towards the success of the operation, added that they are doing it voluntarily to complement the efforts of government towards ensuring a malaria free Gambia. Alhagie Mamat Jallow, youth mobiliser in the area said the work is for their own benefit as their own people live in the area. " If they are infected with malaria, we will be the first to suffer" he said.

According to him, over 60,000 houses have been sprayed in the region to make sure that the environment is free from mosquitoes. Kuja Ceesay, nominated consular for Njaw ward, thanked the Department of state for Health and Social Welfare in the giant step taken in the fight against malaria in this country. She appealed to governement to come to their aid in building a hospital in the area as women find it difficult to reach medical centers in the area.
