Jailed ex-Nawec official’s family pleads with President Jammeh

Africa » Gambia
Friday, February 03, 2012

The wives of Lang Dibba, an ex-staff of Nawec in Farafenni have written to the Gambian leader, appealing for the release of their husband. Binta Marong and Jongfolo Jawara also used the opportunity to express their appreciation for President Jammeh’s benevolent gestures and achievements in the past 17 years.

Below is the full text of their message:

We the family of the above mentioned town are hereby sending you goodwill messages with regards to your benevolent gestures that demonstrated during the past seventeen years of your leadership of our motherland. We are all a living witness no doubt even if we were one time skeptics to your rule but today al of us are pulled out from our ignorance to our conscience, furthermore, we would like to express our sincere thanks and congratulations to you for the landslide victory you made during the recently conducted presidential election.

We are always wishing you a long life, good health and prosperity, so that you can continue to do more of the good works you are ever doing, which are countless.Praying for you to meet your target goals for our country, and may Allah the Almighty enable you to successfully carry out your good tasks, we know and accept the fact that you have a big heart for this country and may you succeed to put our country at highest peak of peace, progress and prosperity as you desire it to be.Your aspirations and vision are so great and immense for this country.

Many leaders envy you today because of the simple fact and reason that what you have done for your country in this short of office is laudable compared to many of them who have serve far more than you and were unable to do the least you have achieved. The only way for us to pay you is to be recognizant with your efforts and always pray and thank you and wish you a long life, good health and the ability for you to be able to accomplish your target goals.

Secondly, whenever we are confronted with personal problems with the state you are the only person who can help us solve it therefore; by all means we should not keep silent but should make it known to you so that you help us as this has always been your endeavor to make Gambians free, sustained and self-esteemed.We appreciate you, your family, and your government machinery and all what you have done and is coming to do for our country in particular and for individual citizens in general.

We wish you to reap the fruit of your labor and have a successful and prosperous tenure of office the legacy you built will never and ever stumble down.Gambians have nothing to be proud of except our good leader and leadership, the glory and respect you earned us is credible, our heads are held high anywhere we go to in this world.

Relentlessly we all rally behind you and this will continue into the future in this direction, thus:

*You found us starved; and took away our suffrage.

* You found us dirty; and provided us with operation clean your environment.

* You found us thirsty; and provided us with good and healthy drinking water.

You found our own inaccessible; and provided us with a good and first class road which made it accessible from all directions.

We cannot finish listing down all the goodies and glories you brought to our country in general and particularly our town which is of no exception, the rule of law, sympathy, education, infrastructural building, self reliance, sustenance and more so the benevolent gestures and amnesties you rendered to individual citizens both in here and in abroad.

Because of all these attributes that you have demonstrated during the past seventeen years, has made we Gambians to have no doubt of approaching you with any internal of external problem that we are confronted with and thus we are always and will always continue to be proud of you anyhow.

The problem we are confronted with is the case that our family head is involved in, who happens to be Mr. Lang Dibba, the NAWEC station officer at Farafenni and two of his subordinates who are Yankuba Camara and Mr. Mbow. This happened one time in June 2010 and thus; there happened a problem with the generator at the said station and since then these people were arrested and remanded until when they were recently convicted and charged to serve a sentence of ten years in prison.

With effect to this as he is the bread winner of a family of more than thirty people, we are members of his entire family has really suffered since his arrest, we have tried all avenues to solve the matter and these includes forming a delegation of elders to meet and appeal to you in person as our sympathetic leader but none of these avenues were materializes and now we have no other alternative but only to try again by all means possible to make you feel and know the problem we are encountering especially we the wives who have been in the centre of the problem, we have endured lots of difficulties since his arrest and now he has been charged a ten years sentence is making things more difficult for us, President Jammeh please sympathise us as we are and are not strong.

We have suffered a lot during this time, maintaining a large family have made us to sell nearly all our assets and now it is almost exhausted. The welfare of a large family like this is a great concern to us as we have no other source of income and the little assets we are banking on are now ruined. As women we have also tried hard since last year to have a solution to this problem but still no means of solution has come on our way.

He has been working with NAWEC for almost thirty four years but has never fallen into such a problem as this is the first time, we have nothing to say but only to appeal to you for clemency so that he can be release together with his two subordinates and rejoined their families, we beg you Sir our dearest president to shower your mercy on him and the other two victims.

In fact they were one time forgiven and released last year, but they were simultaneously arrested again and remanded, since then the court has been proceeding until recently when they were convicted and charged with a ten year of imprisonment to serve. As we have tried all means, but to no avail our last resort is to write to you personally as our dearest, good, sympathetic and benevolent headof state for your good gestures, to shower on us and relieve us from this burden.Lang has always and will always be a great supporter of your leadership together with the entire family.

Its really unfortunate that your leadership together with the entire family. Its really unfortunate that anything that man is destined to endure there is nothing that can stop it, but this has never been international for him because after serving for this lengthy period he has never committed any problem similar to this for that matter this is why we are appealing for him to so that you the most reasonable and approachable state man would forgive him we promise with firm conviction that this has never happened to and will not befell him in the future.

There is nothing more that we can say but only to once again thank you for the good works you are doing for the country in general and for individuals at large.Your generosity is worthy of emulation.

Please, please, please, help us, help us, help us as you are the only person who can sympathise us we have seriously encountered a great deal of difficulties for the period and now this has been prolonged to ten years more. Once again, we wish you long life, good health and prosperity and may Allah the Almighty continue to shower His blessings on you, your entire family and the whole of your government machinery.

Happy New Year and wish you many more to come. The case file number is 428/2010. We hope and wish that you give your highest degree of consolidation sympathy and clemency to our request and plea. We remain to be part of your family.

Mrs Binta Marong &

Jongfolo Jawara
