Judge orders release of prisonerThursday, July 02, 2009 Justice Moses Richards of the Special Criminal Division of the High Court on Wednesday July 1, 2009, ordered the immediate release of one Isatou Jobe Badjie by prison authorities. Justice Richards made this order following an application for bail filed by Lawyer Antouman Gaye on behalf of the said Isatou Jobe Badjie. Lawyer Gaye submitted that the said Isatou Jobe Badjie should be released unconditionally noting that her right had been flagrantly abused. Lawyer Gaye revealed that the said Isatou Jobe Badjie stood as a surety and when the person she stood for travelled out of the jurisdiction, she was arrested and has been in jail, after paying the sum of D300,000 as the bail bond. Lawyer Gaye also informed the court that the suspect she stood for as a surety is presently in the country. In his response, the director of Public Prosecution, Richard Chenge, expressed surprise at such a situation and Senior State Counsel Nebo Jones informed the court that the state was not opposed to the application for bail. Justice Moses Richards commended both the state and Lawyer Gaye for their professionalism and ordered the unconditional release of Isatou Jobe Badjie. Author: by Sidiq Asemota | Media Actions |
