KEYCDA commences massive clean-up exercise![]() Tuesday, October 13, 2009 The Kombo East Youth and Children Development Association (KEYCDA), has recently embarked on a massive clean-up exercise in villages across Kombo East. The exercise was meant to fulfil the resolution agreed upon by the association at their 2008 forum that was held at Kafuta, Kombo East. KEYCDA is an umbrella body tasked by the young people of Kombo East, with the responsibility to oversee the affairs of youth and children in the district. The exercise mainly targets public places like schools and markets, and aims at providing clean environment for healthy habitation of the people in those areas. So far the association has conducted the exercise in three villages; namely Basori, Jiboroh and Kafuta. In an interview with some members of the association, Sally Fofana, assistant co-ordinator of KEYCDA, said it is exceptionally welcoming to have a clean and healthy environment. The cleanliness of an environment, she observed encompasses many positive factors that can lead to a meaningful development. She disclosed that her association has engaged in such endeavours since its establishment in 2005. The initiative, she added, was born from the positive sentiments of the young people of the district, who are conscious of threats that used to be posed on human life due to environmental hazards. Fofana called on the young people of the district to unite in the interest of development, reminding them that they cannot attain their target of sustainable development in the absence of unity. Dembo Kuyateh, Information, Education and Communication officer of the association, branded the move as one of the most successful initiatives that they have embarked on. As genuine young people of their district, he said, it is their social responsibility to take part in the development process of the district. He further asserted that since the establishment of KEYCDA, they have made immense impact on the side of the youths, sighting himself as an example. He commended the youth of the district for their massive turnout to the exercise, observing that it will go in no small measure in promoting a healthy environment, particularly in schools. Lamin Darboe, the youth and child officer of Kaira Nyining Federation - an institution affiliated to Child Fund Gambia, who are the main partners of KEYCDA, said the initiative is worthy and it is expected to bring about development in the district and the country as a whole. He called on the youth organisations to emulate their move and to always do as expected of them. The next exercise will be conducted at Sohm village on Sunday.
