Kiang East chief removed

Africa » Gambia
Monday, July 30, 2012

The chief of Kiang East District in the Lower River Region (LRR) has been removed from his position with effect from Friday, 27th July 2012.

When contacted, Ansumana Sanneh confirmed the development. He said: “It is true that I am removed and no more the chief.”  Lamin Darboe, the governor of LRR, also confirmed Sanneh’s removal, but did not comment on his replacement.

Readers would recall that in 2010, Sanneh, a native of Kiaf and others were put before the Mansakonko Magistrates’ Court, charged with conspiracy and stealing from the Kiaf Village Development Fund, charges which they denied. The charges were later dropped.
