Kinderdorf Bottrop to celebrate silver jubilee SaturdayThursday, March 04, 2010 Kinderdorf Bottrop Junior and Senior Technical Secondary School will this Saturday celebrate its silver jubilee.The Gambian Bottrop school is being sponsored by the German Kinderdorf Bottrop Project headed by Wolfgang Gerrits. In an interview with the Daily Observer, Momodou N Samateh, the principal of the school, said Bottrop was established as a result of the need raised by the people of Western Region for a senior secondary school. According to him, the school was founded in 1989 and has produced young Gambians who are today occupying positions in different professional fields, with some of them currently teaching at the school. Samateh disclosed that as they prepare to once again celebrate the Kinderdorf Bottrop Project, they are equally thinking of expanding the school's curriculum by introducing fields like auto mechanics, business subjects; as well as running a professional courses programme by September. He expressed hope that it will provide suitable avenue for students to acquire further education as soon as they graduate. He commended the ex-students of Bottrop for their contribution to the welfare of the school. He further disclosed that ex-students of school always come out tops in many tertiary institutions. The principal also used the opportunity to thank their German sponsors particularly Wolfgang Gerrits, chairman of the Kinderdorf Bottrop Project; and the late Sanjally Bojang, who he said was instrumental in providing the land where the school is located. For his part, Wolfgang Gerrits, the chairman of the Kinderdorf Bottrop Project expressed overwhelming gratitude for the state of development at the school. He assured the principal and management of the school that they will always be at their side in the interest of development.
