Monday, September 14, 2009
Kanifing Municipal Council's Disaster Management Committee, on Thursday donated household items such as: cooking oil, rice, soap and utensils to the Kotu Quarry flood victims at a presentation held at the KMC conference hall.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Adama Jeng, a member of the Disaster Management Committee at KMC,  disclosed that the KMC Disaster Management Committee, with support from Concern Universal, Red Cross and the National Environment Agency, dispatched a team of workers to assess the level of destruction that the rains have caused to the people who live in the affected areas in the Kanifing Municipality.

According to him, twenty-five trained workers were deployed to the affected areas, to ask the victims their problems so that they can suggest ways of helping them. He said that the donation is  just the beginning of the response plan, adding that they are waiting to access the report on how they can help the vicitims, as well as making sure that there is no outbreak of diseases.

For his part, Yankuba Colley, mayor of KMC, said what happened at Kotu Quarry is terrible. He said the floods have caused lot of damage to properties and assured that his municipality will do all it could to help the vicitims. Mayor Colley finally disclosed that there are more plans to help the disaster victims.
