KNF trains 40 youth on JAThursday, March 04, 2010 Kombo North Federation an affiliate to Child Fund-The Gambia Sunday concluded a two-day training on Junior Achievement (JA) for the youths of Kombo North District at the Child Fund Kombo North Federation office in Bijilo. The training brought together 40 young people from Kombo North District, and focused on work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy as well as teach young people important skills to help them become economically empowered. Speaking at the occasion, Dembo Kuyateh, the child and youth officer of Kombo North Federation said the purpose of the training is to teach the youths business transaction techniques and prepare them to develop their own business plans and making profits in their business. “This will no doubt help increase their level of income as companies and reduce the high dependency rate on families as they are fully empowered,” he pointed out. Kuyateh further told the participants that they must set standards as they prepare to venture into the real business so that the preceding ones can be successful. For his part, Modou Bah, sponsor relations officer for Kombo North and Kairasu Child Fund Federations urged the participants to approach the training with seriousness so as to experience changes in their lives. According to him, every successful business person must endure difficulties during the course of training, but must take it as a challenge. He emphasised the need for a proper record keeping, which he said could keep a business alive. Hamet Modoupeh King, a participant commended the Kombo North Federation for the training. According to her, before joining the Junior achievement programme, she was running her own business but lacked adequate knowledge in record keeping and other business transactions. This, she said, used to have negative impact on her profit. She finally declared that the training has equipped her for any competitive market and gave her the confidence that she will one day become an outstanding business woman.
