Kombo East inter-village football updates

The 2012 annual Kombo East District Inter-Village Football Tournament continued last weekend in Kuloro and Bosori with six other village teams locking horns.


The annual tournament, which commenced since 2005 under the auspices of the Kombo East District Sports Committee aims to expose thetalents of young people in the district as well as unite them.This year witnessed the largest team registration with 16 villages competing for the championship.


Basori defeated Duwasu 1-0 on Friday at the Kuloro Primary school football field. The goal was scored by Alagie Joof in the 21st minute. On Saturday at the Basori football ground, the defending champions Tubakuta also defeated Giboroh Kuta 1-0 courtesy of a Landing Nyassi strike, while Giboroh Koto beat Mandinaba 2-1 the following day at the same venue.


Goboroh Koto’s Edrisa Suso scored the first goal in the 32nd minute, while Mandinaba’s powerful striker Alieu Kebbeh scored the equalizer from a free-kick in the 49th minute. Giboroh’s Sanna Jallow scored the winner in the 64th minute.


Next Matches

Matches will continue this weekend with six teams set to complete the first rounds of the tournament. On Friday 6th April, Faraba Kairaba will lock horns with Kuloro at the Kafuta football field while Kafuta will take on Sotokoi at the Faraba Banta football field on Saturday 7th/ April. Faraba Sutu will play with Faraba Banta in Kuloro on Sunday 8th April.
