The Kunna Foundation, a charitable organisation in the Netherlands, last Wednesday donated medical items worth over two hundred thousand dalasis to the Kuntaur Health Centre in the Niani District, Central River Region North.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Health Centre, Alhagie Ganyie Touray, the regional governor commended Kunna Foundation for their humanitarian assistance towards the people of CRR.  He said the donated items would go a long way in complementing government efforts in providing such items to the health sector.

Governor Touray further spoke at length on the importance of health to the socio-economic development of the country.  He said government cannot do it all and there should be philanthropists to assist. He then called on the beneficiaries to take great care of the items in order to serve its purpose.
Pierre Bah, the chief of Niani district described the donation as a noble gesture. He noted that the assistance will contribute to the health of the people in the area adding that the health centre is a major health facility covering a large area.

Petra Geujen, one of the pioneers of the foundation gave a brief history of the foundation. According to him, they embarked on fund raising in the Netherlands in order to help in the health facility.  She appealed for assistance from the government for duty waver for the materials they are bringing for the health centre.

Gibril Sanneh, the nurse in charge of the health centre confirmed that the items are useful to the facility.  He pointed out that this is not the first time they are rendering assistance to Kuntaur health facility. Other speakers included the Alkalo of Kuntaur, Seedy Bensouda, CEO Kuntaur Area Council, Kebba Drammeh.
