KWYDA embarks on massive cleaning exerciseMonday, November 14, 2011 The Karantaba Wollof Youth Development Association (KWYDA), an association based in Karantaba Wollof, Sami District, Central River Region (CRR) recently embarked on a massive cleaning exercise local called as ‘set-settal’ in Karantaba Wollof village. Speaking at the exercise, the president of the association, Musa Kanteh asserted that the association was set-up in June 2011 with aim of giving the village a facelift as well as contributing their quota towards the overall development of the village. Kanteh also disclosed that the association also encourages students to further their education at higher and tertiary learning institutions, and helps to foster unity and understanding among its members. Yama Sallah, the vice president of the association expressed gratitude to her members for the large turn out, while calling for unity among members. She spoke at length on the importance of the exercise, saying it will help to reduce the rate of malaria, among other diseases. Cleaning exercise, she noted, is now a tradition for them, adding that they would continue the exercise to ensure that Karantaba becomes a malaria-free place. She therefore called on other associations to emulate them. Sallah also used the opportunity to appeal for support from philanthropists, NGOs, the government, and individuals to rehabilitate the village’s borehole. John Kah and Abdou Jobe, both members of the association, expressed similar sentiments. Author: by Gibbi Sallah | Media Actions See Also |
