Lady committed for contempt

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, January 10, 2012
One Sarjo Bah was yesterday, Monday 9th January 2012 committed for contempt of court by Justice Emmanuel Nkea of the Special Criminal Court in Banjul. Sarjo Bah was committed by the said court for alleged breach of peace whilst the Special Criminal Court was in session.

Sarjo Bah, who is the wife of one Alagie Bah, the 2nd accused in the criminal trial involving the state against Christian Brown and Muhammed Bangura in the alleged D20 million Gamtel case went outside the courtroom shouting (ranting), thereby disturbing the proceedings of the court.

When she was asked by the presiding judge why she was shouting and disturbing the serene atmosphere of the court, the lady replied that she was talking to her husband Alagie Bah’s legal counsel. The presiding judge, who disclosed that he found the lady’s explanation unreasonable committed her to be remanded in prison custody for two days. Meanwhile, Sarjo Bah was however forgiven by Justice Nkea after the intervention of several lawyers who appealed on her behalf.
