Lawyer Cheyassin Secka dies

Pap Cheyassin Ousman Secka, an erudite lawyer cum former politician, and Attorney General and minister of Justice from 2000-2001, died Thursday evening after a brief illness, the Daily Observer has learnt.

According to reports, the Late Secka casted his vote in Banjul South on Thursday morning, in the March 29th, Assembly Election together with his wife.

Secka was in private legal practice until his demise. He was also a member of the ruling APRC executive in Banjul between 1996-1997.

It would be recalled that the Late Lawyer Secka, was also the leader of the ‘Gambia Liberation Party’ in the First Republic. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for his alleged involvement in the 1981 abortive coup led by Kukoi Samba Sanyang. His sentence was later reduced after he spent almost 12 years at the Mile 2 State Central Prisons.

The late Secka was buried on Friday atthe Jeshwang Muslim Cemetry March 30th, 2012.
