Lamin Jobarteh, a prominent Gambian lawyer, yesterday donated equipment to The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), at a ceremony held at the GAF headquarters along the Marina Parade in Banjul.

Th equipment which included a TV set, a satellite disk, and a DVD/CD player, is meant for the Lamin Koto military post in Central River Region. Handing over the equipment, Lawyer Jobarteh spoke on the importance of security officers in any nation. He said they sacrifice their lives to protect the people and their properties.

"So no one can pay them. This is just to boost their morale in the hope that they will continue their tireless efforts towards ensuring peace in the country," he said. Lawyer Jobarteh then urged them to put the materials to good use.

Receiving the gifts on behalf of the chief of defense staff, Lieutenant Colonel Yankuba Drammeh, the chief of army staff, thanked Lawyer Jobarteh for the laudable gesture, noting that the gifts will boost the morale of the security offficers at the Laminkoto post. He described Lawyer Jobarteh as a true friend of the security services, who has been doing a lot to enhance their standards. He called on other organisations and individuals to emulate Lawyer Jobarteh, and  expressed hope that the donated items will be put to good use.

2nd Lieutenant Omar B Bojang, public relation officer of The Gambia Armed Forces, thanked Lawyer Jobarteh, saying "this is not his first time to support the security units around the country."
